Technology Productivity
Technology is anything that increases productivity. Productivity is the ratio of output per unit of input. Total productivity = Output Quality and Quantity / Input Quality and Quantity
Production only measures the output, the end, the “what.” Productivity measures the ratio, the means, the “how.” The true cost of anything is not just what you had to give to get it, but what you had to give up. Everything in life has a trade-off.
A corporate slave who works 80 hours a week to make $100,000 a year is far poorer than the entrepreneur who works 10 hours a week to make $70,000 a year ($25 per hour for the corporate slave; $140 per hour for the entrepreneur). The entrepreneur is not just richer in financial productivity, but in all areas of life—mind, body, spirit, relationships, dreams, travel, and other passions—where he can invest all his additional time, energy, and emotion.
Life is not just about your businesses, your arts, your relationships, your spirit, or even your health. It’s about all of it. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. You must be more than just your business, so the business may be more than just you. Create automated, scalable, replicable business systems that you own, rather than run. Work on the business, not in it.
Sometimes, we get so caught up in the production that we forget about the productivity. Being busy is the same as being lazy—being irresponsible for yourself and letting others define your time, your work, and your life for you.
The tools are not the tasks. You are not here to serve the tools—to answer every phone call immediately, to check every email individually, or to write every message personally. The tools are there to serve the task, and the tasks are there to serve life itself.
Measure your productivity in these areas. What gets measured gets managed. What gets managed gets achieved. Share your results in each section, and share the total results in the testimonial section:
